MONDAY RAP.

June 26, 2006

BustaNothing gets you more pumped up on a Monday morning than a good dose of hard hitting rap bangers.  Today’s selections include my favorite cuts from Busta new album “The Big Bang”, a few up and comers from NY, some sprinkles from the west coast, and representations from the dirty south.  Holla.

Busta Rhymes & Q Tip & Marsha from Floetry – Get You Some  (The title cut from The Big Bang.  This Dr. Dre produced track with the South Asian intro/flavor hits hard.)

Busta Rhymes & Missy Elliot – How We Do It Over Here  (Ok.  This is a self proclaimed future banger that should heat up the clubs in the near future.  Produced by Timbaland.)

Busta Rhymes & Raekwon – Goldmine  (Both Raekwon and Busta come with tight rhymes reminicising about the past.  Bob your head…)

Tru Life – This Is The Life  (One of the first signees from Jay Z’s Roc La Familia label to emerge to the top.  This reggae influenced club banger is his most “crossover” appeal effort yet.  The beat follows the minimalist movement that started with Ying Yang – Whisper Song and currently displayed with Clipse – Mr. Me Too.  Repping the NY.  If you’re looking for sleeper hits… here you go.)

Sha Stimuli – Famous  (Another NY cat with a deal that’s trying to break with a single.  The beat is fire and his flow comes off decent.)

Chamillionaire & DJ Quik & The Game – Ridin (West Coast Remix)  (This song breaks my heart.  It’s crossed over so much that sorority girls and soccer moms all over the nation are now “Ridin”.)

Lil Wayne – MIA  (This is what I call a “certified banger”.  There’s no reason why this song shouldn’t be released as a single soon.  Don’t believe me?  Listen to it.  Am I right, am I right, or am I right?  Also… anyone who compares all white tennis shoes to napkins… leaves me speechless.)

like The Karate Kid… this blog is totally irresistible

June 18, 2006

The Karate KidNot much to say for this one… just going to post up some stuff I've been holding for a few weeks.  If you understand the relevance of the Karate Kid poster to this post, then props to you.  Otherwise, you're probably too young or have poor taste in movies.  And by poor taste I mean you didn't enjoy The Karate Kid, possibly one of the best movies of all time. :-D

Chicago – Love Will Come Back  (Who says I don't listen to bands from the 80s?)

Talib Kweli – Listen  (Who says I don't listen to conscious hip hop?)

The Source & Candi Station – You Got The Love (New Voyager Mix)  (Who says I don't listen to non hip hop music?)

Urban Mystic & Rick Ross – I Refuse (Divine Mill Street Mix)  (Rick Ross is EVERYWHERE.)

Young Jinsu & Chris Brown – Never Change  (The new Lil Bow Wow)

Dre Robinson & Jae Millz & Papoose – Be So Cold  (He's from Boston… and he's a much better rapper than Benzino.  I guess that's not saying much…)

Dre Robinson & Dakari – Oh Yeah  ("Dre fresh on the scene like a new face… now all these broads want my seeds in their mouth like toothpaste.")

Governor Brown & Jay Bezel – Hands Up  (Diplomat afilliated.  Produced by Swizz Beats.  Well, I'm not sure it's produced by Swizz… but it definitely sounds like it.  I'd put some money on it.)

Santana & Sean Paul & Joss Stone – Cry Baby  (Interesting collabo.)

Strange Fruit Project – Special  (If you like Little Brother, check this out.  If you don't know who Little Brother is, check out Little Brother and this.  Heh.)

Aksent & Beenie Man – Zingy  (One of the most slept on club joints this year.  Hailing from the UK, Aksent comes hard.)

Cherish & Sean Paul – Do It To It  (Another one of them down south R&B anthems…)

Camron & Nicole Wray – My Life  (In my opinion… the only listenable song from the Killa Season album.  He's fell off so much since Come Home With Me… or even SDE.)

Smitty & Joe – Everyday  (Nice and easy…)

the summer rush continues…

June 12, 2006

OutkastThe music industry goes through cycles just like the different seasons.  Summers are usually a rush of the feel good/light hearted club joints trying to recreate the magic of big anthems that often help sell albums.  Of course that’s not always the case… just look at “Lean Back.”  One of the hottest songs a few years ago, it failed to translate into sales for the Terror Squad album as it only moved about 500k units. Speaking of the rush… there’s been so many songs in all genres being put out/leaked/whatever that I have a giant stash of goodies to put up for everybody.  It’s going to be a busy summer… especially in the South.  Check it out…

Kandi & 8Ball & MJG – I Need  (Girls…. always needing shit…)

Mario Vasquez & Baby Bash – Gallery (Happy Perez Mix)  (This former American Idol dropout has a hit… and this is a good remix of the song.  Much better than the reggaeton remix… which makes me want to rip my own ears off.)

Rick Ross & Jay Z & Young Jeezy – Hustlin (Remix)  (Is there a remix that doesn’t have BOTH Jay Z AND Jeezy together nowadays?  Not my favorite track but it’s so hot right now.)

Shawnna & Ludacris & Lil Wayne & Pharrell – Gettin Some (Remix)  (This is the funniest yet most disturbing song this summer.  The remix is even better.)

Shakira & Wyclef – Hips Don’t Lie (Remix)  (If you haven’t heard this song in some form, you are either A) deaf  B) dead  or C) both)

Outkast – The Mighty O  (Funky and dope.  Outkast continues to surprise me with their crazy style that appeals to both the elitists and the mainstream.)

Nelly Furtado – Maneater  (Dedicated to all the maneating bitches out there… you know who you are.)

Jagged Edge – Ass Hypnotic  (I cannot get enough of JE.)

Chingy & Tyrese – Pullin Me Back  (This has got crazy mainstream/crossover appeal.  JD is a midget… but a genius.  It’s good to see Chingy back to where he belongs… following the formula from what gave him success in the past.)

getting that summer love…

June 8, 2006

Heather HeadleyPeople say that spring is the season for the start of romances.  So summer's really when all of that blasts off huh?  Indeed.  Whether it's that summer fling or that once in a lifetime soulmate kind of love…. a soundtrack is neccessary.  And even if you're single and happy or heartbroken from that bitch who gave you herpes… well… the music is still relevant.  Here are some R&B and love joints for that ass:

Jagged Edge – Baby Feel Me  (Classic JE style… classy… yet a little raunchy.  Yes.)

Heather Headley – Me Time  (From her original role on Broadway in Aida to her sophomore R&B effort, she's one of my favorites.)

T Pain & Lil Wayne – Studio Luv  (From the strip club to the studio… the luvin apparently never stops…)

Paula Deanda & Baby Bash – Doing Too Much  (Prepare for the new crop of young talent.  First Cassie, now 16 year old Paula from Texas.  This song is blowing up everywhere with good reason.)

Jagged Edge – Watch You  (Who doesn't love JE!?)

Jagged Edge – So High  (MORE MORE MORE)

The Isley Brothers & R Kelly – Blast Off  (You can say what you want about R Kelly, but he's a musical genius.)

Joe & Papoose – Where You At  (Where my ladies at? =)

eclectic?

June 2, 2006

Lauryn HillI'm eclectic… and by eclectic I mean I listen to songs that don't all sound the same… and by not sound the same I mean they sound the same but are in different languages.  So here are some tracks that A) don't sound the same… or B) are in different languages…

Nelly Furtado – No Hay Igual  (English translation: There is no equal.  Her comeback trail is moving along very nicely with Promisicious… Maneater… and this song.)

Sleepy Brown & Pharrell & Big Boi of Outkast – Margarita  (Who doesn't love tequila and margaritas?  Seriously!)

Voltio & Notch – Chevere  (Produced by Lil Jon… the beat makes the song.)

Dem Franchise Boyz vs. Korn – Coming Undone Wit It  (I'm not a big fan of mashups because 99% of them sound like absolute trash… but when they're done well it's quite amazing.  Needless to say this one was done well.)

Method Man & Lauryn Hill – Say  (This song samples one of Hill's live tracks from her last effort.  They mesh real well together.)
